Cowl with pattern

 today I'm going to my friends 40th birthday party!

I made her a cowl for her present, here shown on my 7-year old ...

 it can be worn "open" and folded.

 Pattern:

3 skeins of thick yarn - I used Fritidsgarn (category 6)

2 skeins of a little thinner yarn, I used Heilo, (category 4-5 maybe)

Size 7 European needles, I like the round ones best

Cast on 36 stitches

row 1-5 - straight stitches

row 6 - knitt one stitch, two together and yarn over - continue until one stitch left, stitch straight

repeat pattern until desired length.

My cowl is 96 cm around.

Cast off - sew the two edges together.

 the pattern looks a little different on both sides.

I hope my friend will be happy!

I know, I know

 I know - I'm not the most reliable blogger, my posts come out very irregularly. But please consider this: I'm a single mother who works full time, studies 50 % at university and runs three blogs... (have I given you enough excuses for you to forgive me?)

We have tv-shows for children every advent, 24 days before Christmas. The shows alternate, and there are two shows in particular that my girls love - they are both about these little NISSE - Norwegian santas, they are small and live in our barns. One show is about red-nisse and the other about blue-nisse. 

To make a long story a little shorter, the girls wanted me to make the red-nisse hats - long hats. In which I obliged. I love that they ask me for things to make.

 I'm really sorry about the quality of the pictures, they're taken with my phone. My computer was re something over Christmas and I can't seem to get the pictures loaded from my card to the computer and it messes up the memory card.

I'm making Valentine dresses for the girls - I've embroidered this text, it says: I love you because you are you and you are mine!

The dresses will be in white fleece with a big red heart on the chest, stomach area.

Will start cutting the fabric today. I don't like dressing the girls completely the same, so I have to make two different dresses with the same fabrics. Hope they will be up this weekend.

Tutorial 29 - knitted blanket

I almost didn't make it today... I've had my Bible Study group at my house today - I love those evenings, it's so nice being able to talk about what matters most with someone that feels the same way. Today I want to show you how to make a kitted blanket.

The pattern is very simple

Use two types of yarn, one mohair and one wool

BIG sized needle

I don't really know how many stitches I've got - but make it as wide as you please.

then the pattern goes like this:

4 rows of straight knit

1 row of: two together, one loop over, two together, one loop over all the way

4 rows of straight knit

1 row of: two together, one loop over, two together, one loop over all the way

continue until desired length

Well, last tutorial tomorrow - i'm really hoping I'll have an angel ready for you, if not, I'll have to figure out something else.

And I must have at least 30 more tutorials I want to do, so I don't think the tutorials are over yet.

Tutorial 11 - cowl/ headband

I'm so happy I had wonderful Jen here yesterday! And I still have three more guests showing up throughout the month.

Angel has gotten herself a new favorite - can I call it clothing? - her new cowl. And she designed it herself. These were her directions: I want it in this pink color, with big red hearts and to keep around the neck one time.

And because I love it when they try to be involved in the designing part of creating, I made it as she desired it to be.

I used one skein of wool for the pink - and I didn't have anything left, so getting two, might be wise. For the red color I just used some left over for another project. Needles, size 4 European size.

I used 100 stitches - it has to be dividable by 20 - I knitted on the round.

Knit about 7 cm, 2,5 inch of straight knitting before you start the pattern. There will be a lot of threads in the back, so I made it double, folding in the top and bottom where the holes are, creating the pointy edge. Sew together the edges in the back.

My daughter loves to wear it as a headband - because of the wool, she says it itches some around her neck, but I'll fix that.

Anyway - this was a big hit with her... and one for the other one is in the making  - matching, but not similar.

Tutorial 2 - knitted cowl

Today I'll show you my knitted cowl - the pattern is a little advanced, but I really enjoy it.

 You'll need two skeins of yarn

Knitting needles - round ones, size 5 am. size, 3,75 eu. size

I made 200 stitches, can absolutely be a little longer, but the pattern has to be dividable by 8.
Knit for as long as you want it, I used both skeins.

if someone please will tell me how I can get this word document as a better picture, or as a download... I'll be mighty happy.

The three last rows are plain, for a nice roll.

Another project finished, making up for day 19

I finished the cowl, and I have to say I'm pretty happy with it - now I have ONE Christmas present done!

Two times around

 I will post the pattern during my 30 days of tutorials, starting Tuesday. I hope a lot of you are attending. I do (if I may so say myself) have a lot of nice tutorials coming up. I have something for the knitters, the crocheters, the seamstresses, the wood workers - I think I might have something for YOU.

 Luvinthemommyhood has a knit-along going on, and this cowl was done because I wanted to participate there.

Day 22 and 23

 O.K. so I'm cheating a little - I'm doing two days into one post, shoot me.... I'm working hard on my paper... the five pages due tomorrow. I'm on page four now, so when the girls go to sleep tonight, I'll be able to finish it - one BIG unfinished project all done. And because sitting by the computer, writing a paper, can get very tiring, I started to knitt yesterday. Luv in the mommyhood has a knit-along going on - a cowl knit-along. I decided to join. I've made my own pattern and will be sharing it with you guys in November.

I have also found that this is the perfect Christmas gift for so many people on my Christmas gift list. It's quick, and we do live in Norway. Nice warm clothes, accessories are always welcome.

The knitting do pull me away from my paper, though, it's so much more fun to knit than to write about how asults learn.

I tought Sunday school today - and I loved today's topic - we're all limbs on Christ's body. We made cards for every child, telling them why they were special. My group is the one that hasn't started school yet, and they were so proud of their cards.
